School Fun

We had Texas Week at school a couple of weeks ago and here is PJ and some of his favorite cowpokes. PJ, CJ and Landin

CJ is my co-teacher Jennifer's little boy and is about 10 months older than PJ. This two boys have a blast together. I hope that they stay sweet buddies.

Isn't this hilarious? I've never seen PJ fall asleep at the dinner table! Eating is one of his favorite pastimes. He teachers ran down and got me so I could witness this very funny event. School must really tire him out some days. (See that basketball goal in the background? One day PJ found it in the resouce room and drug it all the way down to his class! I guess he thought that is what his class needed)

Sleeping with his mouth open...got that from Dad.

Fun PJ Facts

PJ is such a precious little boy to us. He amazes me and frustrates me everyday :) I am sure that I frustrate him too. We are in an interesting stage right now. PJ is 17 months old and wants so badly to communicate his every whims to us but does not quite have that ability yet. He babbles non-stop and can say some words, signs about 8 words on a consistent basis and points or tries to show us what he wants. Sometimes we understand and sometimes, our precious little boy dissolves into a heap of crying mess on the floor. *sigh* We are taking this one step at a time.

He's favorite pastime is playing basketball! He is his father's son for sure. Every single day he shots some baskets in his small goal or Dad's big one outside (with help of course). This last week he has decided that he wants mom and dad to take turns too and he will rebound for us. Dad is teaching him to stand back from the small goal and shot the ball instead of dunking it every time. Really, I don't know what we would do without his basketball goal...it is his all time favorite toy.

Today, PJ was drawing on his magnadoodle (looked like scribbles to me) and all of sudden got very animated. He got my attention, pointed to the picture and signed the word "bird". When I asked him if his drawing was a bird, he violently shook his head yes! His very first drawing with a meaning behind it!!! I was so proud. :)

PJ teaches me so much everyday. I always thought that I'd be his teacher but I feel like the student most of the time. I love this little boy so much. Thank you God for trusting me with Pierson James Sawyer.

Snow day and catch up

Things that PJ is up to lately:

  • This boy loves music and dancing. Just check out the pictures below! He asks for "sooooog" (song) when we get into the car, in the computer room and first thing in the morning when we get to school. He especially loves the radio at the Bumpus house because he can control the music. He has a music class at school where they teach rhythm by saying "ba ba" in different patterns and then have the kids repeat. PJ is constantly walking around patting his legs saying "ba ba" over and over.
  • PJ has always been a great eater and I thought that he always would be BUT he has started to get picky. He is still a good eater but he is more vocal about what he likes/dislikes. He has recently tried PB&J and popsicles for the first time and they were both big hits.
  • He shakes his head "no" but when he says "yes" he uses his entire body to say yes. Too cute.
  • PJ says more and more words everyday but has started to babble all the time. I think we are getting ready to hear that word explosion that my dr has been telling me about.
  • He understands a lot. We can give him simple commands and he readily does what is asked of him...most of the time. His teachers are always saying that he may not be the most vocal but he understands quite a bit.
  • Loves any type of craft project!!! He is after his mom's heart. :)

The next several pictures are of him dancing:

Have I mentioned that he loves his "Nelmo"

On Thursday, (2/11/10) it snowed here all day long!!!! We got a record 12.5 inches in the DFW area. I have never seen such beautiful snow in all my life and we couldn't let PJ pass up on this opportunity either. I have left the front window blinds up since then and he is constantly going to the window and lifting his hands in the air and saying "snow snow". Here are a couple of our snowman pictures. Dad worked really hard on him.

Not always a Momma's Boy :)

Most of the time, PJ is a true and true momma's boy. He is by my side at most moments throughout the day. It is wonderful and sweet for me but some of you may be wondering, "when does dad get his time?" Well, the proof is in the pictures. He sure does love his dad too! I sure do have two handsome men in my life.

Santa Visit '09

This is what we expected. PJ has, let's say, reservations about men and I didn't really think that he'd go for Santa this year. He loves seeing Santa on tv and really enjoys the inflatable Santa in our neighbors yard but the real life man in the red suit...not so much. But you have to take a picture, right?
MOMMY, help me!!!

After the traumatic experience with Santa, we took PJ to see the small train in the mall. He was too little to ride it himself but enjoyed waving to the the other children.
And then he got to go to the play area for the first time. Even though there were some very rowdy kids there and PJ got knocked over a few times, he had a lot of fun.

Trying to catch up with blogging....

The last couple of weeks have been a blur of activity, so I'm trying desperately to catch up with our blog. I wanted to capture too many things but here are some of the highlights. The other day PJ watched dad use a screwdriver to replace some batteries in a toy. When he was finished, PJ took the screwdriver to another toy, turned it over, found the screw and tried to imitate what dad had done. We were floored at his thought process. He is such a sponge these days! (Ohh, and check out the tiny curls at the base of PJ's head..too cute)

Eating his snack off of his big boy tray. (I know it's random but as a mommy, I get excited about each and every little thing)

2nd Camping trip for PJ...but first family camping trip
We met up with The McMillin Family the first weekend of November for what I hope becomes an annual family camping trip. We had such a great time and those girls LOVED PJ and he LOVED them too.

We also celebrated Granny's 80th birthday!

Happy Halloween. Dad went to a Halloween party on Friday night dressed as a very enthusiastic Cowboy fan who got in a scuffle with a over zealous Redskin's fan.

On Halloween, PJ got to dress up as a lion and help mom and dad hand out candy. We all set outside and PJ would hold out the candy to trick-or-treaters but Mom would have to help him actually let go of the candy. He had a blast staying up passed his bedtime, which we thought would help out with daylights savings time...we were wrong.

He thinks he gets the whole bowl to himself

Camping with the girls 09

PJ went on his first camp out with the girls in October. It is a tradition we started several years ago where I meet up with Clint's two sisters at Tyler State Park and we have a girl's weekend of camping. This year we all decided to bring our kids too. (Some pictures are out of order....) Maybe 10 minutes into our first hike
PJ loved to ride on Rylie's bike
And she enjoyed his car to

Roasting sausage over the campfire

Ready for bed, gloves and all. His little fingers were so cold.
